The Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato is the first Italian institution museum built from scratch specifically for presenting, collecting, documenting and promoting the development of contemporary art in Prato and throughout the country.
Opened in June 1988, during more than twenty years of activity, the Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato has extensive panoramic art linked to specific cultural situations, proposed exhibitions in Prato of some of the best protagonists of art of the second half of the twentieth century and gave space to many aspects of art of our time. Contemporary Art in Prato is thus ample room in a museum that preserves a considerable wealth of collected works.

The increasing heritage of works of the Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato is the lasting trace of what has been exhibited at exhibitions, as well as critical inclinations and cultural interests of the various directors and curators who have followed to guide the Centre. The constantly growing collection, which is unique among the various art museums in Tuscany, now includes over three hundred works by artists including Kounellis, Sol Lewitt, Merz, Paladino, Paolini, Pistoletto, Anne and Patrick Poirier, Schnabel, Spoerri, Tremlett , Zorio. In addition to the permanent collection, the Center Luigi Pecci hosts many of the numerous exhibitions in Prato.
The Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato has developed over years of acquisition policy that has been paid to research the most significant development in Italy and Tuscany, making it one of the major art museums in Tuscany.
