It’s one of the problems of modern society: crafts are set to disappear, ancient arts are now fading from the collective memory. For many of the noble activities from the past we can only hope to find them in the museums. And this is why an initiative of the Museo della Rocca Sanvitale di Fontanellato, in the province of Parma is worth divulging, appreciating and perhaps also coping. With the aim to give the possibility to let young people relive and love crafts that are dying out, different workshops have been created inside the museum, where everybody can learn about old professions and start to learn the techniques.
A first step towards the preservation of that craftwork that risks to get lost.
The initiatives are focused on youth and students, because they are those who can save in our modern age, a world made of patient and careful work and most of all handmade. The Incision workshop , for example teaches to reproduce the printed image and it refers to the creativity by Parmigianino in the engraving art. To learn the participants have at their disposal gouges and graver for the engraving on linoleum, printing ink for the matrix and a printing system with suited paper, press and rollers.
In the Portrait workshop you will learn the first technical-practical notions about the structure and the proportions of the different elements that form a human face: after a short introduction of artistic anatomy, the participants are first placed in front of a mirror and then they start to sketch their self-portrait using sepia pencils, sanguine and charcoal.
The Puppet workshop is very amusing also for smaller children. The children can touch all kinds of puppets and materials and each one of them can create a personalized puppet with wood or material with the guide of expert teachers. The Fresco workshop is perfect for everybody and it gives the possibility to feel like a real painter for day. The aim of the short course, that lasts about two hours is to make a small personalized fresco.
